BBDBuy Women: Let the Garment Type Choose the Measurement

A women-focused category becomes weak when it applies one generic “women's sizing” paragraph to every product. Dresses, fitted tops, trousers, skirts, bags and accessories each create different decisions.

The better method is to identify the product type first and then use the measurements that control that product.

Fitted Tops and Dresses

Prioritize bust, waist, hip and length where relevant. Compare them with a garment of similar construction that already fits. Stretch fabric, darts and shaping can change how the same flat measurement behaves.

If the seller chart is body-based rather than garment-based, do not compare it directly with a laid-flat shirt without accounting for the different method.

Relaxed or Oversized Pieces

Determine whether the intended effect comes from width, length, dropped shoulder or a combination. “Loose” is not a measurement and can hide a garment that is much longer or shorter than expected.

Skirts and Trousers

Waist alone is not enough. For skirts, length and hip room may matter. For trousers, use rise and inseam in addition to waist and hip where available.

Bags and Accessories

Switch out of apparel thinking. Use real object dimensions, strap length, hardware and closure checks. A women-focused category can contain products with completely different measurement logic.

Warehouse Check by Product Type

Do not ask for the same QC evidence on every item. A dress may need length and waist confirmation. A handbag may need strap/hardware views. A fitted top may need chest and body length.

The best inspection request is the one that resolves the actual uncertainty.

Example: One Category, Three Different Fit Problems

A fitted dress may require bust, waist, hip and total length. Wide-leg trousers may require waist, rise, inseam and leg opening. A shoulder bag may need dimensions and strap range instead of body measurements at all.
